Petersen says it was time to challenge himself (Yahoo Sports)

FILE - In this Nov. 23, 2013 file photo, Boise State coach Chris Petersen talks to his team during a timeout against San Diego State in the first half of an NCAA college football game in San Diego. A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Petersen has agreed to leave Boise State and be the football coach at Washington. The person told spoke on the condition of anonymity Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2013, because the hiring had not been announced by Washington. (AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi, File)

Chris Petersen said it was simply a gut feeling that it was time to take on a new challenge by leaving Boise State for Washington. Petersen said he's constantly been asked why he finally left Boise State after eight years as the Broncos head coach. Petersen was 92-12 at Boise State, including five conference titles and two Fiesta Bowl victories. He replaces Steve Sarkisian, who was 34-29 in five seasons at Washington before taking the job at USC.
