South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw was thrilled with his accomplishments Saturday, even if they didn't lead the 10th-ranked Gamecocks to the Southeastern Conference championship. Shaw threw for one touchdown and rushed for another to lead South Carolina to its record fifth straight over No. 6 Clemson with 31-17 victory Saturday night. ''Connor Shaw, ah man, the best quarterback in school history,'' Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said. They'd hoped to have more to celebrate as SEC Eastern Division champs, but No. 5 Missouri defeated No. 19 Texas A&M 28-21 about 45 minutes after South Carolina's win to eliminate the Gamecocks (10-2).

Linebacker Myles Jack and defensive end Eddie Vanderdoes also rushed for touchdowns as the Bruins (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12) earned their first win at the Coliseum since 1997, retaining the Victory Bell by grinding out just their third victory over USC (9-4, 6-3) in 15 years. Javorius Allen rushed for 123 yards and a score for the Trojans, who had won five straight in their revitalized season under interim coach Ed Orgeron. Cody Kessler passed for 174 yards and hit Xavier Grimble with a TD pass for USC.

Wayne Lyons intercepted two passes from Tommy Rees late in the fourth quarter, and No. 8 Stanford held off No. 25 Notre Dame 27-20 on Saturday night in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Cardinal (10-2) overcame two interceptions from Kevin Hogan and a penalty that wiped away another touchdown to win their 16th consecutive home game. Stanford will play for its second straight Pac-12 title and Rose Bowl berth next week when it faces No. 13 Arizona State in the conference championship game. If Arizona State beats rival Arizona late Saturday night, the conference championship will be held in Tempe, Ariz. Otherwise it will be at Stanford, which handed the Sun Devils their only league loss this season.

Chris Davis raced 100-plus yards with a missed field-goal attempt for a touchdown on the final play to lift No. 4 Auburn to a 34-28 victory over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. Davis caught the ball about 9 yards deep in the end zone after freshman Adam Griffith's 57-yard attempt fell short. He then sprinted down the left sideline and cut back with nothing but teammates around him in a second straight hard-to-fathom finish for the Tigers (11-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference). Auburn clinched a spot in the SEC championship game with the stunning victory over the two-time defending national champions.

Bryce Petty threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Baylor returned two interceptions for scores and the No. 9 Bears hung on for a 41-38 victory over TCU on Saturday. The Bears (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) scored 21 straight points on either side of halftime with just 1 yard from their high-powered offense and bounced back from a blowout loss at Oklahoma State to maintain their hopes for a share of the conference title. Baylor could win the league outright and qualify for a BCS bid, likely the Fiesta Bowl, if it beats Texas and the Cowboys lose to Oklahoma next Saturday. The Horned Frogs (4-8, 2-7) were in position to tie in the final seconds, but Casey Pachall threw his third interception on a pass tipped by receiver Brandon Carter and grabbed by Baylor's Terrell Burt in the end zone with 11 seconds left.

Harvin doubtful to play against Saints (Yahoo Sports)

Percy Harvin is listed as doubtful to play Monday night for Seattle against the New Orleans Saints because of lingering soreness in his surgically repaired hip. Harvin made his debut with the Seahawks two weeks ago against the Minnesota Vikings and appeared in 21 total plays, 19 offensive snaps and two plays on special teams. Coach Pete Carroll expected Harvin to be fully integrated into the offense coming out of their bye, but Harvin was unable to practice during the week. ''We're going to make sure he's 100 percent before we go.'' Harvin's hip remains sore and hasn't responded the way the Seahawks expected coming out of the game.

After the way that Kansas State ran the ball a week ago, Bill Snyder decided to make every effort to prove that the Wildcats were still a ground-and-pound kind of team. John Hubert ran for a career-high 220 yards, Jake Waters accounted for three touchdowns and the Wildcats beat turnover-prone Kansas 31-10 on Saturday for their fifth straight win in the series. We came out and got the job done.'' Hubert also had a touchdown run for the Wildcats (7-5, 5-4), who will become the fourth school in Big 12 history to start 2-4 and reach a bowl game when it learns its destination in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Kansas (3-9, 1-8) stumbles into the offseason with its fifth straight losing record and few signs that coach Charlie Weis had made much progress in two years in charge.

Broncos' Derek Wolfe ruled out for Sunday (Yahoo Sports)

Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe has been ruled out of Denver's game at Kansas City with a mysterious illness after getting sick on the team's bus ride to the airport Friday. The Broncos said Saturday that the defensive end was ''continuing to be evaluated by doctors to determine the cause of his symptoms.'' Wolfe is the second defensive starter who needed emergency medical attention in the last two weeks. Marshall University says running back Kevin Grooms has been suspended indefinitely after his arrest on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and obstructing an officer. A booking officer at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville said the 21-year-old Grooms was being held there after his arrest early Saturday in Huntington. Grooms was arrested less than 24 hours after Marshall defeated East Carolina 59-28 in the East Division Championship of the Conference USA. In a statement Saturday, the Marshall Athletics Department said Grooms was suspended indefinitely.

Breshad Perriman scored on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Blake Bortles with 4:50 left in the fourth quarter to give No. 17 UCF a 23-20 win over South Florida Friday night, keeping the Knights on course for a conference title and BCS bid. UCF (10-1, 7-0 American Athletic Conference) secured at least a share of the conference title. A victory against SMU next week will give the Knights the title outright and their first bid to the BCS. And they beat the Bulls, despite committing five turnovers, including three by Bortles.

Mariota threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns - all to Huff, who had nine catches for a season-high 186 yards - and the Ducks (10-2, 7-2 Pac-12) sealed their sixth straight 10-win season. It was also the team's sixth straight victory over the Beavers in the series. With the Ducks holding a 24-23 lead, the Beavers scored on Sean Mannion's 4-yard pass to Tyler Anderson to pull in front 29-24 early in the fourth quarter.

Cowboys will start stretch run after another break (Yahoo Sports)

The Dallas Cowboys had two weeks to stew over a blowout loss to New Orleans that was their worst since Jason Garrett took over as coach three years ago. They have almost as long to ponder their response - consecutive wins that will have Dallas either holding or sharing the NFC East lead and seeking to end a three-year playoff drought going into the final quarter of the season. The Cowboys (7-5) start a 10-day break with four days off after a 31-24 Thanksgiving victory against Oakland, overcoming a slow start and building on the momentum of a last-play win at the New York Giants that answered the demoralizing night in New Orleans. ''We were coming off an emotional win four days ago,'' said cornerback Brandon Carr, who was burned early against the Raiders but bounced back with an interception in the end zone with Oakland driving for a potential tying score in the fourth quarter.

David Fales threw for 543 yards and six touchdowns in an entertaining showdown with Derek Carr and San Jose ended No. 16 Fresno State's run toward a possible BCS bowl with a 62-52 victory Friday. Fales was every bit as good as the more heralded Carr, matching his six first-half touchdown passes in a near perfect performance that made the Spartans (6-6, 4-4 Mountain West) bowl eligible with their first win over a ranked opponent since 2000. Davante Adams caught 13 passes for 264 yards and three scores. The loss ended Fresno State's chances to beat out Northern Illinois for a spot in a prestigious BCS game.

Stacy Coley hauled in a pair of touchdown passes and zig-zagged 73 yards on an end around for another score as Miami kept its slim hopes for a spot in the ACC title game alive with a 41-31 victory over Pittsburgh on Friday. Allen Hurns caught nine passes for 173 yards for the Hurricanes (9-3, 5-3 ACC), who raced to a quick 14-point lead and had no real trouble with the Panthers (6-6, 3-5). Isaac Bennett ran for a 141 yards and a score for Pitt but the Panthers were never really in it. Miami assured itself of its first nine-win season since 2009 with the victory.

Bishop Sankey blitzed Washington State for 139 of his 200 yards rushing in the second half to become Washington's all-time single-season rushing leader, and the Huskies reclaimed the Apple Cup with a 27-17 win over the Cougars on Friday afternoon. After a sluggish first half, Washington put the game on the legs of its star running back and he responded to cap his record-setting junior season. Sankey bettered Corey Dillon's record of 1,695 yards set in 1996 and will have a chance in a bowl game to establish a mark that will be difficult to top. He also ran for a 7-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give the Huskies the lead for good at 17-10, a school-record 35th rushing TD of his career.

In last week's loss to Pittsburgh, Browns quarterback Jason Campbell sustained a concussion in the third quarter after he was knocked down by Pittsburgh cornerback William Gay, who struck the QB with a glancing blow to the face mask. Not only was Gay not penalized, he caused a fumble that was returned 49 yards, setting up a touchdown that gave Pittsburgh a 20-3 lead. The NFL fined Gay $15,750 on Friday for unnecessary roughness on the play. A league spokesman said Gay ''unnecessarily delivered a forcible blow to his opponent's head and neck area.'' Thomas said replay officials in the press box should be able to review those plays and give them ''the same kind of scrutiny that a scoring play or a turnover play has.'' Campbell is following the NFL's protocol on head injuries and not playing Sunday.

LSU set the template for No. 5 Missouri. Keep Johnny Manziel in the middle of the field, and the Heisman Trophy winner can be contained. Coach Gary Pinkel knows that's easier said than done. With each win in a historically successful season, Duke coach David Cutcliffe said his team would have to follow up with an even bigger win the following week. That approach has brought the No. 24 Blue Devils here, within a win of an improbable Coastal Division championship and a ticket to the Atlantic Coast Conference title game. It all depends on whether they can beat surging rival North Carolina on Saturday. (The players) were able to write their own story and write their own challenge, and that's what this ultimately is.'' The Blue Devils (9-2, 5-2 ACC) have won seven straight to tie the program's single-season record for victories, while the Tar Heels (6-5, 4-3) have won five straight to dig out from a 1-5 start and become bowl eligible.

Bragging rights take backseat in Iron Bowl (Yahoo Sports)

Alabama NCAA college football coach Nick Saban speaks at a press conference Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. No college football team is more accustomed to rampant hype than No. 1 Alabama. Sure, the Iron Bowl against No. 4 Auburn is huge, but Nick Saban's team has faced 20 top 10 opponents over the past six years and beaten 16 of them. (AP Photo/Alabama Media Group, Vasha Hunt)

Bragging rights are taking a backseat for a change in this Iron Bowl. It's No. 1 Alabama versus No. 4 Auburn Saturday in a rivalry game that has reached epic proportions in the state beyond even the usual craving for 364 days of rubbing it in. The winner of only the second Top-5 matchup in the Iron Bowl's 78-year history will play for the Southeastern Conference championship, and live on in the national title derby. ''Oh man, it's going to be a battle,'' Crimson Tide receiver Kevin Norwood said.

Some teams, such as Penn State, will have to wait another nine months before playing again after the regular season finale Saturday at No. 14 Wisconsin. But it sure would give the Nittany Lions (6-5, 3-4 Big Ten) some positive offseason vibes if they can trip up the Badgers (9-2, 6-1) and their hopes of an at-large berth into a big-money Bowl Championship Series game. ''And there's only one game left, so ... our guys will be ready to go out there and lay it on the line, I know that,'' Penn State coach Bill O'Brien said. NCAA sanctions have the Nittany Lions shut out of the postseason again.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema talks on his headset in the first half of an NCAA college football game against Mississippi State in Little Rock, Ark., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013. (AP Photo/Danny Johnston)

Zach Mettenberger unapologetically explains why he has a hard time viewing 15th-ranked LSU's regular-season finale against Arkansas as a cause for celebration. ''It's pretty depressing - another chapter in a lot of guys' lives passing by,'' the Tigers' senior quarterback said this week. ''You spend so much time with all these guys that it's going to be tough to not be around them every day.'' For Mettenberger, college football has been a sometimes bumpy five-year journey from Georgia - where he was dismissed - to community college in Kansas, to LSU, where he spent one year at third-string before finally taking his first snaps as a starter in 2012. After leading the Tigers (8-3, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) into Friday's ''battle for the Golden Boot'' against the Razorbacks (3-8, 0-7), and one last bowl game, ''I'll never get to play college ball again,'' Mettenberger lamented.

Oregon state coach Mike Riley and Oregon coach Mark Helfrich don't need to be schooled about the significance of the Civil War to the state. Riley grew up in Corvallis and was the son of an assistant coach for the Beavers, while Helfrich was raised in Coos Bay, on the southern Oregon coast. ''I was an Oregon fan and certainly growing up there was that back-and-forth in the community that will happen after this game, and you wanted to be on the right side of that, for sure,'' Helfrich said this week before the 117th edition of the annual rivalry game against the Beavers. He is tasked with righting the No. 12 Ducks (9-2, 6-2) after their deflating 42-16 loss at Arizona last weekend.

No. 17 UCF has loftier goals against rival USF (Yahoo Sports)

Located just 85 miles apart, South Florida and UCF have on paper always seemed like natural rivals. But in four meetings between 2005 and 2008, the Knights could never break through with a victory. Now as members of the same conference, UCF will be playing for more than its first victory in the series when the teams meet on Friday. With two victories over the final two weeks of the regular season, the No. 17 Knights (9-1, 6-0 American Athletic Conference) can wrap up not only the league title outright, but their first BCS berth.

Ohio State has put itself in a position to possibly play in the BCS championship. The third-ranked Buckeyes (11-0, 7-0 Big Ten) are undefeated and heavily favored to stay that way after playing slumping archrival Michigan (7-4, 3-4) on Saturday at the Big House. Ohio State has won a school-record 23 straight games since losing to Florida in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2012, and in Ann Arbor to close the 2011 regular season. It seems to be set up for more success on both sides of the ball against Michigan.

No. 9 Baylor still plenty to play for at TCU (Yahoo Sports)

But there is still plenty to play for in the final two games for the Bears (9-1, 6-1 Big 12), who are at TCU on Saturday. ''It's nothing hard about getting refocused,'' coach Art Briles said. Baylor is still in contention for its first Big 12 title and could still get into a BCS bowl, even after that stunning 49-17 loss at Oklahoma State last weekend. ''There are still goals and ambitions that we set prior to the season that we can still accomplish.'' With Mississippi State's offense struggling and time slipping away in the Egg Bowl, coach Dan Mullen turned to Dak Prescott and asked him to win the game. Bum shoulder and all, the sophomore quarterback did just that, running for a 3-yard touchdown in overtime to lead the Bulldogs past rival Mississippi 17-10 on a chilly Thursday night at Davis Wade Stadium. But the sophomore led the Bulldogs (6-6, 3-5 Southeastern Conference) to their tying drive in the fourth quarter and the game-winner in overtime. His game-winning touchdown came on a gutsy call by Mullen, who opted to go for it on 4th-and-1 at the 3 instead of kicking a short field goal.

Joe Bergeron ran for 102 yards and a touchdown for the Longhorns (8-3, 7-1 Big 12), who end their regular season on Dec. 7 at No. 9 Baylor. If Texas wins that game and No. 7 Oklahoma State loses to No. 20 Oklahoma, the Longhorns would win their first league championship since 2009. Bengals-Chargers to be 1st NFL blackout of year (Yahoo Sports)

The first NFL game to be blacked out locally this season will be Sunday's matchup between the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals and the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers say more than 5,300 tickets were still unsold at Thursday's deadline, meaning the game won't be televised in Southern California. The Chargers had four blackouts last season, including a loss to the Bengals. The Chargers were spared the embarrassment of a local TV blackout of a Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season after ESPN and some local sponsors guaranteed the purchase of approximately 8,500 tickets.

(AP Photo/Tony Avelar, File)

San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman says wide receiver Michael Crabtree is progressing well in practice and the team hopes he can play against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Roman says that San Francisco's top wide receiver will be eased into action whenever he returns. Crabtree gingerly ran several slants and over-the-middle patterns at the start of Thursday's practice. The best indication of Crabtree's progress might be that he's no longer among the players sitting out practice or limited in workouts, according to the team's injury report.
